The international conference “Mediterranean or Mediterraneans? Plural Visions and Multiple Challenges”, to be held on December 2–3, 2025 in Naples, explores the Mediterranean as a plural reality marked by complex global challenges: climate change, pressure on resources, geopolitical tensions, migration, and social inequalities. The event brings together scholars and professionals to foster interdisciplinary dialogue, co-creation of knowledge, and support for policies grounded in scientific evidence.
Mediterranean or Mediterraneans? A critical look at the Mediterranean basin
During the conference, the Mediterranean District will be officially inaugurated—a new hub based in Naples dedicated to integrated and transdisciplinary research on the Mediterranean. Its goal is to build a network among universities and research centers across Mediterranean countries, in order to develop a shared understanding of common problems and possible solutions.
The program includes welcome sessions, institutional addresses, the presentation of the Mediterranean District, and a keynote lecture by Mohamed Behnassi on the interconnected crises affecting the Mediterranean region.
